WEST AFRICAN CENTER FOR BIOETHICS - http://www.westafricanbioethics.net/

The West African Bioethics Training program is an program funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health through the Fogarty International Center to provide training and support for the development of international research bioethics in West Africa.

This program has been involved in providing training for Biomedical researchers and several Institutional Review Boards in Nigeria. Over the past 2 years, the WAB has conducted training for up to 1,000 biomedical researchers in Nigeria and other West African countries in order to increase their awareness of bioethics and informed consent issues in research.

The WAB sponsored MSc, MPhil/PhD program in the Department of Surgery at the University of Ibadan has admitted its first set of students. There are 13 in all and come from different medical, educational and research institutions in Nigeria and Burkina Fasso. The students enjoy varying levels of scholarship support depending on their need.

We are already soliciting applications for the 2008/2009 academic session and hope that interested individuals will apply early so that the process can be completed quickly and on time.
